American artist J.R. Baldwin created a board game inspired by the novel “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” by Hunter S. Thompson.
The game suitcase consists all kinds of "ingredients", dosecards, activities & challenges like "program the dvd or vcr player" :D
& of course: it is a edition of 1 but... still available at the moment.

Some of you might have been there this weekend, Lens mentioned it in an earlier post: Into The City / Asian Village as part of the Wiener Festwochen going from 8th of may til 14th of June.

Here are some of my personal impressions:

I started my little tour on Saturday, May 23rd with a delicious snack from one of the street kitchens hosted by the Thai and Indonesian embassies at Gumpendorfer Straße in the 6th district (which was the center of asian village and closed down for automobiles the whole weekend).
At about 7pm I went to Semper Depot to see/hear a sound/dance performance by Singapur artists sonicbrat (sound), Lim Chin Huat (Motion) and Lim Woan Wen (Light). The show, which lasted about an hour featured a dark light setting with multichannel sound art / piano improvisations and a dance performance. The combination of the three worked quite well in my opinion, although I'm not much of a fan of lenghty and dreamy piano variations. That aside the performance was a success, especially the middle part, where resonances of space were fathomed out, and the ending with its unique lighting, almost turning the poles of semper depot into some kind of dark forest.
After that we went out on the street again to hear a performance by Stereotyp, Cee and AraByrd from Malaysia which was a defintive banger and got the street crowd moving pretty intense. Ranging from Dubstep to Techno to HipHop, Stereo and Cee broke genre borders once again and AraByrd found an answer to every one of their tracks.

Now to my sunday highlight which started at noon, also at Semper Depot. Some of you might have seen Daito Manabes YouTube videos already, yesterday he held a 20 minute performance with a colleague which was quite impressive to see live be honest. Called "Face Visualizer, Instrument and Copy" they hooked themselves up to electrodes which stimulate their facial muscles according to the sounds played. Here's my own short documentation, taken from the middle of the show (Daito is the guy on the right):

That's all from my side, after the performance I went out to enjoy a wonderfully sunny Vienna City sunday. Lens J. might hit you up with a more precise update this week. Stay tuned!

From May 27th - 31th the festival Coded Cultures, presented by artist group 5uper, is taking place in Vienna.

... pointing out corporate bigwhig misdemeanor (see my last post), here's another example:

Sony Pictures CEO Howard Stringer supposedly hates the internet for reasons beyond our imagination as you can read in an article over at cnet.

Many of you might remember an album called The Grey Album by producer Dangermouse that came out a couple of years ago, many of you might remember the hard time it had, many might remember "Grey Tuesday" and the aftermath. Now, five years later, once again Dangermouse is held from releasing his OWN album by record label major EMI due to what they call "legal issues". Therefore, for the sake of protest, the album called Dark Night of the Soul is now released as a 100+ page book with artwork by David Lynch and a blank CD-R to be filled with mp3's downloaded via p2p networks. Here's the official statement taken from the release site, www.dnots.com

Danger Mouse's new project Dark Night Of The Soul consists of an album length piece of music by Danger Mouse, Sparklehorse and a host of guest vocalists, along with a collection of original David Lynch photography inspired by and based on the music.

The photographs, which provide a visual narrative for the music, are compiled in a limited edition, hand numbered 100+ page book which will now come with a blank, recordable CD-R. All copies will be clearly labeled: 'For Legal Reasons, enclosed CD-R contains no music. Use it as you will.'

Due to an ongoing dispute with EMI, Danger Mouse is unable to release the recorded music for Dark Night Of The Soul without fear of being sued by EMI.

Danger Mouse remains hugely proud of Dark Night Of The Soul and hopes that people lucky enough to hear the music, by whatever means, are as excited by it as he is.

By the way, there already is a possibility to listen to the album, head over here to listen to the stream.

Since the Team at Video Lan Project is nearing the release of version 1.0.0 of their famous VLC media player, also my personal choice of media player, I figured I spread the word and make you aware that there is a Skin contest going on right now for the final release too. As for this release candidate, it contains lots of new features like new codecs, various playback core improvements (frame-by-frame, live-recording, instant pausing, etc...), interface improvements and many bugfixes. Get more info, binaries and skin editors at the project site. Contribute by testing this wonderful piece of software. Keep software free!

finally - about one month ago, after two great wu tang related 7inch releases called the "shaolin series" from 2006, and the 12inc "PJs from afar feat. Raek Won" - El Michels Affair released the long awaited and nearly forgotten :) full length album "enter the 37th chamber" with all the 36th chambers instrumental live versions.

i was really waiting for this and enjoyed every track! For most of us that were growing up with the "36 chambers" a "must have". There is also a great live recording of an XM radio studio performance from 2007 with all the Wu-Tang Clan MCs on Think Differently.

lately released and upcoming from truth & soul:
El Michels Affair - Isaac Hayes: A Tribute (2009)
Lee Fields & The Expressions - My World (6/2009)
+ various 7inches,

i'm out for a little working holiday.
enjoy and digg it! lens.

For all you Hip Hop Heads and Listeners out there, diggin the deeper and live "freestyle" side of it. Go ahead and press the button. Los Angeles beat maestro Omid Walizadeh - one of underground hip-hop's best kept secrets - dropped me a link to his "Omid Goodlife Mix - Chapter I".

I'm diggin his music for several years now and he is responsible for one of my personal most favourite HipHop tracks ever: the track "for her souly, slowly, solely" featuring one extraordinary MC called "H.I.M.N.L" from the "beneath the surface" ltd 3LP. All the beats on this mix are produced by Omid. Read the cover information for vocalists, ... among others: aceyalone, abstract rude.

also look for the "split ltd 10inch" with busdriver/neilla on subversive*rec. dope! sothen: have fun and get yourself some more information on:
