dear friends. as the 8-bit fever has finally infected numerous other parts of the rotaug crew, i come up with what i was diggin the last months:

QUARTA 330 - from tokyo. one of my favourite chiptune artists at the moment. he is "famous" for his kode9 - 9 samurai 8bit remix that was released on hyperdub in 2007, i prefer the sunset dub on the flipside and make it my most favourite strictly 8-bit tune right now. (quarta - sunset dub/9 samurai in a quarta330 remix); the follow up release (sabacco/homeless 12", 2008) together with cardopusher - again on hyperdub - is another great one, more kind of laidback dubstep style. Quarta330 has been in berlin at audiopoverty.de in February and there is a download link of the live set, where he's - in my opinion - getting into it in the second third. so don't miss the last 40 minutes of that set... and check SAMIYAM, from LA, Michigan. 12" release, also on hyper dub.

CARDOPUSHER & AKIRA KITESHI - Dubstep with a heavy 8bit influence. Cardopusher in some tracks. the 12inch "milk thistle" released on lo-dubs in 2008 for example with a remix of the double dragon theme on the flipside. last vinyl release, but without 8bit: "bad face" released february 2009 on offroad recordings. Akira Kiteshi, two guys from Edinburgh (pinball/noglitch) ... funky glitch and 8bit dubstep electronic, get it before its gone. just listen.

DISRUPT - just released a full length vinyl LP a few days ago called "the bass has left the building" on the Jahtari Record Label, that he co-founded. it's dope and there is nothin more to say but that it's a mixture of chiphop, roots dub and old-school gaming soundtracks... there is a 7inch excerpt of this record called "berzerk dub"... don't miss and not to mention that you should digg the Label website... (we wrote several posts with links about them, dubmood, volfoniq, bo'marley, ... already, that's why i dont go into detail now. Jahtari IS dope!)

back from the sadly small 8-bit vinyl culture to the 8-bit homelands - THE WEB:

UOKI-TOKI  & KOLA KID - two guys from russia. the one from moscow, the other from stalingrad. both definitelly just a part of the big big iceberg of great chip tune music on the net that i know and don't ... but nevertheless i wanted to mention those two for now. Uoki Toki has his own tracks, gameboy cover versions of nirvana - smells like teen spirit, rage against the machine - killing in the name of and many others in his pocket. Kola Kid a really nice EP called "cash machine go!" in a very typical chip tune style and genre: 130bpm and faster :) a beautiful, playful chiptune EP. find this one and others on childrenofdos.com.

8BG - chiptune breakbeat, tech from Argentina. some of us had the pleasure this year during his europe tour ...

8BITCOLLECTIVE - a website and chiptune related file sharing community. all styles, all devices; no matter if produced with gameboy, nintendo ds, C64, amiga, ... lsdj oder korg, ... you will find everything. be sure that you will digg for a long, long time in a never ending list of songs.

GBMC - GAMEBOY MUSIC CLUB - an association of 8bit musicians, "nerds" and friends of chiptune that are organizing chiptune-parties and -concerts or discussions, workshops,... on chiptune related programms and devices. they have a club in vienna one thursday a month. dates to be announced on their website. every GBMC has two fix programm points. the gameboymusic open, where everyone that has a device and patterns or freestyles can perform on stage, followed by a live act of some group or artist. experimental or not. a pleasure to be there every time it takes places @ rhiz, where they have their homebase or anywhere else. an institution. keep up the good work. its dope and inspiring. check the links section of this page also to find more.

8BITPEOPLES - they first came together in 1999 as a collective of artists sharing a common love for classic videogames and an approach to music which reflected this obsession. Our primary interests were to provide quality music for free and most importantly to have fun. In the years since, we have grown in rank and expanded our goals. the majority of their releases ar provided for free... but find out for yourself what this culture of 8bit music is all about - sharing ;)

to end it up with a classic: MARIO meets THE AMEN BREAK "Mario Mixup" by ElectronicMess, a 19 year old guy from birmingham producing drum n bass and dubstep tunes ... check him, "send round the thug" and "i'm not a hacker, i swear" out... i think that's enough now. have fun ;) da LENS.

And write comments, so that i know that the time i spend for this is not wasted. spread the word! peace

dear friends. as i found a short timegap i decided to work over my personal website lens.rotaug.com, changed the typo size, updated the news, recents, photography, shortfilm, cv and links section and made some slight changes in the navigation. still not everything done, but it takes a while to get through the betaversion anyway. i wanna hear some critique or proposals how i could make things better to navigate or use. greets bros and sisters. "two thousand and nine" in full effect ... enjoy
