Councils are recruiting 'citizen snoopers' to report litter louts, dog foulers and even people who fail to sort out their rubbish properly. The 'environment volunteers' will also be responsible for encouraging neighbours to cut down on waste. The Disciples, Russ D & Jonah Dan, are originals on the UK and European reggae and dub scene, working for more than 20 years as musicians, sound operators and producers, always staying true to the conscious roots spirit. In recent years they have been running their own Backyard Movements label, and encouraging the next generation of artists.

Paul St Hilaire, formerly known as Tikiman, is another legend of the dub world, a hugely influential artist in bridging the divide between electronic and reggae music, who continues to be much in demand as a live and recording artist. Known to many as the voice of Berlin’s Rhythm & Sound and Basic Channel, St Hilaire also runs the False Tuned label, committed to what he calls “the Caribbean tradition of handmade, human, spiritual music”. An accomplished musician and producer, St Hilaire is a master of deep, melodic music. Making a very rare appearance in his adopted hometown of Berlin.

Digital Roots Movement are the Berlin-based soundsystem crew Tricky D, Aldubb, Jah Seal, Mr Glue and Supa D, producing future dub, roots, and electronica that would make King Tubby proud...

Jahtari, from Leipzig, are a rising force in the dub world, with several new releases this year and a host of international collaborations. As producers move increasingly from studios to laptops, they are interested, in their own words, of “doing something to dub that hasn’t been done before”. Check their very funny website, where they “explain” digital laptop reggae.

Deadbeat, from Canada, is an artist on the digital interface, producing “impossibly heavy dub laden minimal electronics”, and throwing down killer DJ sets when he’s not developing cutting edge music technology.

Daniel Best is the man behind the Berlin-based Best Seven label, well known for championing soulful reggae and dub music, and introducing several Berlin artists to a worldwide audience through the Best Seven Selections.
